It's [livejournal.com profile] shinysylver's birthday today! Happy birthday hun! Hope you have the best of days ♥, filled with Captain America and Tony Stark and Steve and Danny :nod nod:.

Talking about Steve and Danny - and Chin and Kono, these promo shots, just. I mean, unf, right? Unf is the word.

Gorgeous cast is gorgeous. This show has alllllll the pretty.

I feel like I need a new fandom to play around in. I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] sirona_gs yesterday about it, how it'd be good for me to put a little distance so I don't get as annoyed with everything that's going on in the H50 fandom lately; I don't find it the healthiest place to be in at the moment, and I'd enjoy being able to turn away to something else when I need it. But nothing has hit me like this show has, recently. I'm not into the film ships going on lately - I sort of feel assaulted by them everywhere and thus I tend to turn away. So, I don't know. It's hard, you guys. If there's anything you think I should check out, let me know!
In the meantime, if anyone wants to point me towards awesome Eames/Arthur fic (preferably long and meaty, I have a weakness for AU), I'll take it. I've not read them much, but they're so lovely.

Amusing that you say a long, meat-y Arthur/Eames AU as I just finished reading Early Returns, which is the first Eames/Arthur fic I've read in months and months. It's a Newspaper AU, 15,000 words and I adored it.

Hope it's new to you. :)

Right now I'm reading the Steinway!Verse, where they're classical musicians, and it's much fun! But I've barely read anything in that fandom, so everything is new ^_^. Thanks!

Yeah I learnt the hard way not to put all my TV eggs in the one basket. So I follow lots of shows (almost exclusively crime shows) and have always got DVDs to watch. But ATM I only read/write 5-0. I'm actually generally not a shippy person so I don't know if you'd like any shows I like but here goes:

2 Broke Girls - the first comedy I've actually watched since Will and Grace ended (oh how I miss you crazy kids). Its light and funny but at the same time serious and realistic about being a minimum wage earner. And it's my escape from how swept up I get in 5-0. Also, nobody has been gruesomely murdered yet so it is probably good for my mental health...
Unforgettable - Finding its feet but it stars an Aussie (although what doesn't these days...) so I gave it a go. I like it and the ongoing mystery isn't going at snail's pace which is goooood.
Bones is back! YAY!
And Rizzoli and Isles is ALMOST back! Yay!
But I think we're fairly different in what we like so...

I'm slowly working my way through 1001 movies to see before you die. I own almost 100 of them already which is kind of scary (and oh THATS where my house deposit went...) It's pretty fun to see how storytelling on film has evolved over the last century.

Then there is my Curious George addiction, but we don't really talk about that any longer...

Ahhh, I've heard about 2 Broke Girls, and I like Kat Dennings, but, I don't know if I'd get emotionally involved. Watching Bones, but not to the point where I'm part of the fandom. Never heard of Unforgettable...

I've never been really good at handling more than one fandom, but these days I'd really like to write something else than 5-0. I just don't feel compelled to!

*sigh* I know exactly what you mean. And H50 used to be such a happy, friendly little fandom and now it's all broken and makes me feel bad :(

Like you, I tend to only be really bought in to one show at a time, and currently, whether I like it or not, that's H50 (and certainly all I want to/can write right now is H50). There are several other shows I love and watch avidly (Supernatural, Person Of Interest, The Mentalist, NCIS, Dr Who and Merlin all spring to mind), but H50 is the only one I'm truly 'fannish' about right now. Sadly I can't just decide to become fannish about something, it has to grab me and make me obsessed, I don't get to choose.

I'm sure that the H50 fandom isn't a healthy place for me to be mentally right now, but I can't seem to walk away from it. It's kind if like when you have an ulcer on your tongue and you know it's going to hurt if you shove it against your teeth, but you can't help but keep on doing it (or is that just me??).

Yeah, a fandom really has to sweep me off my feet, otherwise I'm into the show, but just, *shrug* about it, and I won't be looking for fic, and even less writing it!

I just hope that H50 gets to return to a happy friendly place soon enough. in the back of my mind I know I'm not going to walk away any time soon, so I cannot do anything else than to hope it'll get better.

Luckily I'm not prone to mouth ulcers but I get what you mean! ^^

I love everything about that picture. But especially the fact that they are barefoot. I don't generally like my own feet, but other peoples feet are fine. And the composition is really well done too.

As for other fandoms. My first love will always be The Sentinel. It was a TV show on in the mid-90's (it's off air now) but the fandom is hella active. The main archive for (slash) fic is 852prospect (dot) org the 'gen fic' archive is tslibrary (dot) skeeter63 (dot) org. It was a 'buddy-cop' show with a couple of twists. 1)one of the main characters wasn't a cop. He was an anthropologist. And 2) the cop had hyperactive senses (hense the need for the anthropo. he was studying enhanced senses for his Ph.D). 95% of the fic is AMAZINGLY written so you'll have a Lot to sink your teeth into. The 'fic-finders' comm is SentinelFicFind (dot) LiveJournal (dot) com. Their tags are extensive and not frivilous. There are a few authors who are highly regarded and oft requested. Alyjude is one, Keira Marcos is another. Legion's fic is super good too. All of these authors can be found through the fic finders comm. The AU's and crossovers are multitudinous. This was a show where the slash practically wrote itself but the gen can pretty much be seen as pre-slash. The anthropo (Blair was his name) moves in with the cop (Jim) 'for just one week, man, I swear...' and 4 years later (the run of the show) they are still living together.

So. Go, dive in (no wading here go all in) have fun. It's definitely a fandom you can 'pick up, and put down' at your leisure. So there's no pressure.

The main characters were played by Richard Burgi and Garrett Maggert (sp?) google image search them, you won't be disappointed.

I know about The Sentinel ^^. It used to be on TV in France and there are still reruns to this day, from what I know. I just never got into it? I like the idea, the Sentinel thing, and I read most of the Sentinel fusions in the H50 fandom, because I'm familiar enough with the idea, but the Sentinel fandom itself was never mine.

Thing is, I kinda have to be swept up by a fandom/tv show. It's not all that easy, for me, to pick something up? Also, I'm terribly shallow about it, too, and I got to feel attracted to the characters, and, well, neither Jim nor Blair ever did it for me, I'm afraid =/.

But - I'll keep it in mind. It's always good to read things completely out of what you usually read.

I've been heavily into Sherlock BBC lately. There's some good fic out there, and the canon is easy to catch up on (three 1.5-hour episodes). And there's more coming soon, so everybody is much with the YAY! There's even a couple of very charming Sherlock/Five-O crossovers.

Date: 2011-11-07 12:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
Aaaaahhhhh Sherlock. Oh, my God, so many of my RL friends are obsessed with it. We missed it when it showed first on the BBC and then never got around to watching it. And then one of my obsessed friends told us about Cumberbatch's peen - which she has seen by going to see him play the Frankenstein monster, and it's put me off him FOREVER. Lol, I am so terribly shallow XD. But yeah, it's another one of these fandoms that people have been beating me over the head with? And it tends to make me cower away...I know I miss so much good stuff XD.

I read the crossovers, though!

I'm another one in the have to be swept away category. I can't ever seem to pick my fandom--it picks me. And then latches onto me like a giant, brain-sucking leech and won't let go.

Which is why I try to stay on the fringes of fandom and not get too embroiled in the politics and fights and mess. I want to be able to still enjoy my fandom.

That said, have you tried Merlin? It's been very good this year. It certainly can't seem to dislodge H50 in my brain, but it's making me happy with the slash at least. :)

Merlin is a show I just cannot. I have tried, but I am so enamoured with the Arthurian legends that the way they take it and make it something completely different breaks my heart at every moment. It's all wrong, and I cannot get past it. I get aggravated so easily by this show, because of this, and everything around it thus drives me a little mental.

Which is a shame because Bradley James is lovelyyyyyy. But I cannot get over the blind rage I feel about this show.

I've been watching Criminal Minds every time it comes on TV lately, but I haven't really found a good CM niche on LJ yet. I think once real life gets a little less chaotic, I'll probably do that, although I'm not looking forward to weeding through badfic and such. That's always the worst part of scoping out new fandoms.

I'm kind of glad that life has kept me away so I've missed a lot of the drama, but it still makes me sad. Sucks that people have to ruin things for everyone.

Date: 2011-11-07 02:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
Some fandoms don't have that much badfic - I find it easy to avoid in H50, for example. Maybe that's just me? Idk. Some fandoms are luckier than others, but I think, the more grown-up the material for the fandom is, the easier it is to avoid badfic. There will always be some, though...

It's sort of tainting things a little for me, and I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to. I just hope it doesn't last, because the people are marvellous, seriously.

I feel like I need a new fandom to play around in.

Sad ditto! I'm kind of like, I need a new fandom because it seems like everyone is drifting out of H50--which, I totally get why, the show is not living up to its potential. I like big, active, excited fandoms. And yet, I am not super interested in any of the fandoms that are really active and producing really excellent fic right now, because Steve and Danny. *grins* Fandom! It is a challenge.

Date: 2011-11-07 02:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
See, exactly, this! I don't know if people are drifting or just mostly sad and a little dejected, which makes it harder to write and be excited (I still have hope for the show, though, I'm thinking it doesn't need that much to be fixed), but I just don't feel the excitement of other fandoms, these days, be it the Avengers of XM:FC or the new Sherlock movie or whatever, it just doesn't reach me. Because, Steve and Danny, come on!

Basically, show needs to rise from its ashes, and soon. Otherwise we're all going to become sad and bitter :(.

Date: 2011-11-07 02:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alba17.livejournal.com
Ah, I'm sad you're not into H50 so much. It does come in handy to be into more than one fandom when one goes off the rails a bit. Other times it's like being torn in too many pieces. I still love H50 but the show has been disappointing this season. I'm with the people above who have to be picked by their fandom. You just can't force it. I had no idea if I'd get into another one after my first fandom imploded. But I got into Merlin and I'm still really into it (although I kind of drifted away into H50 mostly the first half of this year and I was surprised when I got really back into it again.) I could never get into Inception or Sherlock the way so many people have and the Avengers stuff...I love RDJ but the comic book/superhero stuff just...doesn't do it for me. I couldn't even finish watching Captain America and I dislike comic books. I have to really, really ship a pairing and that involves, well, honestly, being super attracted to at least one of the actors and loving their relationship on the show and that doesn't happen that often.

Date: 2011-11-07 02:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
I wouldn't say I'm not into it so much, it's more that sometimes I feel like I'm too deep into it and I can't see the surface and everything seems like such a huge fucking deal I don't manage to just sit back and enjoy the show as I did. That's what I want to find again. And I watch so many different shows but none has hit me like this...

And, oh, I agree so much on the whole Avengers thing. I do like the superhero thing, but I'm shallow when it comes to fandom, and I need to want them, and I really, really don't, when it comes to Charles/Erik or Cap/Stark. So that's done for me, already...

Have you tried Plus Belle La Vie ? Or Louis la Brocante ? I heard they're pretty big in France !

(The sad thing is, since I found once Derrick fics, I'm sure there's some fics for those around. And now I'm picturing Louis la Brocante in gay sexual intercourse. Brrr.)

How's the McFly fandom ? No good new fics around here ? I'm pretty out of it now.

I'm pretty big on Criminal Minds and Merlin, but they were already mentioned. And always, bandom.

Date: 2011-11-07 02:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
My mom is a fan of both of these, THIS IS SO WRONG.

The McFly fandom is pretty much dead. I blame the boys being on Twitter, and most importantly, Tumblr. Tumblr has broken the McFly fandom completely and utterly, it is now all scattered over there and no one bothers to write some proper fic (even less Junes, long-suffering sigh). So I just re-read fics that Von and I have written in the past sometimes. It's like a comfort blanket.

I'm confused by bandom, nowadays - bands have changed too much!

Okay, so you made this post like five minutes after I stopped checking my flist for the day, because as it happens I was writing allll the words for your fic! \0/ (slightly tipsy Danny says hello! ♥) BUT. Basically you probably know that I came over from the Inception fandom when I found H50, so. I HAVE ALLLLLL THE RECS, IS WHAT I'M SAYING.

All right. Okay. I shall try to limit myself.

Basically I would say to you GYZYM, but I don't want to force her down your throat. Just know that her stories are beyond lovely, and fill me with such joy.

Okay, other than that:

Waiting On by [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden. Just basically everything ever by The Hoyden. I mean it. Especially Incipit, which is probably one of my most favourite stories out there.

Dreams are for Rookies by [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub

Towards Zero by Mirabella

Literally ANYTHING by [livejournal.com profile] weatherfront, over at [livejournal.com profile] tornadobelt. One of my favourite writers out there, period. Ifrit is just. I cannot even. No seriously. If you ever stalk one writer, make it her.

Renovations by [livejournal.com profile] joosetta

Tilt by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis. This fic. THIS FIC. HONESTLY. THIS. FIC. In fact, anything J writes is excellent. Cartography for Amateurs will, I think, appeal to you quite a bit at the moment. It had a pretty profound effect on me (as you'll see in my comment, if you ever get that far)

The wrath of whatever from high atop the thing by [livejournal.com profile] amazingly_me

Presque Vu by Pru. This story will blow you away with its complexity and beauty.

Also fantastic things were written by [livejournal.com profile] hackthis, , [livejournal.com profile] jeannedecarnin (the way this woman uses words is profound and astounding and frankly a little unbelievable). And, of course, uh [shameless self-pimp] I have a few stories in that fandom, too. Um. Enjoy?

Oh, fandom, why do you have to be like this? If you still love H50--embrace it, I say. Negativity breeds negativity so when fandom hit a bump in the road, I kind avoided all the negative niches and play around in the sandboxes of those that are still enjoying the show and not letting a few aspects overshadow them. Talk about obsessive... behavior..lol

Funny. After watching two weeks of my normal TV line up and finding all the writing gone to the pits...it makes H50 still a shiny beckon in what is a wasteland out there...lol. I had to drop Criminal Minds after another horrid eppy.

The only other shows that I still enjoy NCIS, NCIS LA, Person of Interest,(which is new) and Supernatural, but none of those shows pull me into their fandoms.

Hugs you tight.

Thing is I have too much of a morbid face to my curiosity, and it's really stupid, but I can't help myself. I really need to stop looking for the unhappy, and focus on the happy!

I keep on hearing really good things about NCIS: LA - I never liked the original, I guess I've been burned, being in the Dark Angel fandom for as long as I could, even post cancellation, made me completely, and utterly averse to Michael Weatherly. I just cannot, with him. So that was that for NCIS :').

I thought it was really good!

I've been watching 'Homeland' lately and it's very intriguing - not really made me want to write anything, or seek out fanfic, but good nonetheless.

Also had a friend rec NCIS:LA very highly, so I may try to watch that... I have a line on all the links (as well as the crossover/tie-in episodes that kicked it off), if you're interested.

it sems like you are a bit like Goldilocks trying to find a fandom: not to big, not too small, it has to be just right *grins*

I've watched and loved way more shows than I've been fannish about - past the occasional review. It does need a little special push to fall into reading/writing about it. Lost was amazing, I had tons of fun with Supernatural before getting weary and tired, Stargate Atlantis has the best fiction of the whole universe, H50 is fun though there is so much hit and miss... I've been waiting on the Avengers for a long time, so I'm thrilled to see it take off, but I don't know if I'll only keep reading or try to write too.

I've flirted with Inception a bit, XMFC, a Castle or White Collar fic here and there, Star Treck XI, Sherlock/SH, Castle, but never was tempted to write. Generation Kill has high quality fiction, and as much as I LOVED the series it's better I take only little bites (my poor heart can't take it). The TV show I am most excited about each week is The Vampire Diaries (I would have laughed if someone would have told me that 2 years ago, god, it was so bad at first), but I'm happy only reading 1-2 persons on my flist. None the less, all of those all have potential IMHO.

Thank you! I hope my birthday is chock full of those men too!

I am so glad I fell for the Avengers when I did. I know what you mean about having to fall for a fandom. I look at it as sort of falling in love where you have the crush and you want to spend all the time in the world getting to know the new fandom. Then you are in the honeymoon phase and there is all the fic and inspiration and every thing is HAPPY. And then you start to see their warts and they annoy you sometimes but you still love them deeply you just need a little space sometimes.

I'm somewhere between crush and honeymoon with Avengers and the last is where I am with H50. I still love it deeply but for my own sake I need a happy place or I'd be too negative right now. And sadly enough most of that is because of the fans not the show, even if the show has been less than inspiring.

So I hope you find a happy place that you can wrap yourself up with all warm and comfy but I won't try to suggest anything. I know you have to find that sexy fandom from across the room yourself. Am I letting this metaphor go on to long now?

Okay stopping rambling...now.

i dont consider myself embroiled in fandom unless i read fic for it, is that weird? because i honestly watch a lot of TV; CSI, criminal minds, the walking dead, american horror story, true blood when it's on, game of thrones when it's on... but i dont want to read fic for any of those.

ummm ive heard that suits and white collar are really good... my mum LOVES white collar, matt bomer is so pretty and the show is really fun. and i guess the fandom is cool, too ;)

I am going to second White Collar SO HARD. oh god...the gorgeousness of that show. *sighs*

I'm sorry to hear that the H50 fandom is going the way of the SPN fandom. SPN was love...LOVE until about season 5 when the show started to go downhill. I know there are some things that piss me off about 5-0...but fandom is where I go for the escape...for the fix it fics. I'm dying....dying for a fic where Steve gives Lori ten kinds of shit for trying to call Danny "Danno"...or that Grace does it for her.

I'm kinda pissed that fandom is letting one character tear it apart (i'm assuming she is the problem you're referring to...)

Also, Criminal Minds is a great show...with a tiny fandom and no prolific writing..so just go enjoy the show and don't bother with fandom.

I'm adoring Person of Interest at the moment but also another show that's lacking a fandom, I think we're all just waiting to see if the show will make it past one season or not.

I feel your pain on needing a fandom to swim in though, I was lost until H50 rolled in. Hope you find something!

I still love HFO. I don't love the new character, I can't lie. But I still love HFO and I'm with others on here who are of the mind that there is way more good than bad and the show is still the shiniest thing for me on TV. I read very few other fandom fics but I have read some Inception and liked it.

I have to say that the only other show in recent years I could have got fannish about was Generation Kill and that is awesome. There are some brilliant fics in Generation Kill and some great ones on AO3.

Funnily enough the amount of really GREAT fic posted on AO3 in HFO fandom this last couple of weeks has been really noticeable to me.
