Okay, I really feel the need to ask this question here, because I am a bit worried about things I have read this afternoon...

In fic, do you prefer when characters use a condom or not? Say, in a Steve/Danny first time fic, what do you prefer? What do you think is more in character?

Please, do tell me. Any answer would be precious for my sanity, right now.

It just makes the most sense to me!

Just - somewhere else in the fandom, in other fandoms (not considering magical fandoms), where people think that condoms don't have to be mentioned because it's fiction, and it doesn't matter it's not real.

I dunno, it matters to me, and maybe I'm weird but I actually find it kind of hot when one or the other partner either helps with the application of the condom, or if there's some desperate fumbling to get on with it, already, or whatever.

No, I get you - I find it quite hot, too. To me, the whole condom thing is now completely part of the sex, and it's not jarring at all. Actually, I have been jarred out of a fic when condoms weren't mentioned during the sex, with no explanation at all.

Well yes, I can see their point that yes, fic is fantasy and maybe sometimes you want the whole fantasy package but H50 is more of a real life scenario therefore if you want to make your fic feel real I think you should go with what real people would actually do.

Yeah, see, that's what I see too - you write in a fandom that is firmly embedded in real life, if it's not a magical AU you're writing, you're bypassing the idea of the show in itself...

This would probably be why say writing an mpreg in this fandom would be next to impossible to do - although somehow cattraine managed to do it! LOL
