delicatale: (Steve swimming)

So yesterday I spent most of my time, when I wasn't working, Googling spinal cord injuries and how they completely change people's lives around. Mildly depressing I'll admit, but also very educational.

Thing is, this fic idea I have won't let me go, and yet it won't expand into something I can really work with. So I have this idea, burning my brain, of Steve injured and coming back home and finding something to hold on to, not to lose his will to live and his strength. I can't find the something.

Although, hold my horses, I think I might have found it, through Scotty Caan, actually. Now this story is sprouting wings. Steve and his love for the water, not being able to be in it so much anymore because of his injury, of his useless legs...rediscovers surfing. And discovers Life Rolls On.

And meets Danny, too. This could actually lead somewhere...

In a good, or a bad way?

Um, in the same way I cry at SPCA commercials featuring Sarah McLachlan songs.

Every time I hear that fucking music, I have to change the channel immediately. It's like Pavlov's bell, my tear ducts respond before I even see the screen.

To answer your question, I think it could be a very good story. I am starting to like the storyline/trope where Steve has some kind of permanent injury because it is interesting to see him in that situation. I don't really like stories that try to make me cry, because I hate feeling emotionally manipulated, but crying at a well-told story about someone overcoming something very difficult is not a bad thing in my book. ♥

That's the thing, I don't want to write something with thoughts like 'they have to cry!' in my head, I just want to write something that is potentially moving. I've cried while writing in the past...

Yeah, I know what you mean and I've felt the same way before, both writing and making vids. I think it's a good thing if you're moved by your own work.

I have so many images for it now, it's assaulting me every three seconds!

...I think if I write it, I'll probably want to make people cry.

It sounds like a crying type of story, yeah.

I hope it settles into a story - it sounds heartwrenching and awesome :)

The auction fic I have to write will be schmoopy and happy and fluffy =D. This will not!

Yeah, mine isn't going to be fluffy either, but that's what was requested. I hope I can pull it off!

I saw a ficlet sort of like this...somewhere. Danny'd had a spinal cord injury and Steve had had a traumatic brain injury, they met at a rehab facility in Jersey (since the military overflow sent Steve there). That was pretty much it, but it was lovely (and heartbreaking). I'd definitely love to see something along those lines more fleshed out! Do it! :D

Oh, I got scared for a second when I read the beginning of your comment that someone already wrote it, but my idea's quite far away from this! So it could work...

This sounds like it will be one hell of an emotionally powerful fic--I hope you decide to write it :)

I probably will not be able to help myself, but now I'm starting to be scared I don't have the talent to back the premises up and then people will be disappointed!

OK, I go away for several days, and in that time you seem to have posted THIS lovely little plotbunny AND the daycare story??

*happy Perspi dance*

I think this story could really be intriguing, and would be more than happy to cheer you on while you put it together. :)
