Okay, I am actually a little scared to do this, but why not.

DVD Commentary Meme.

Take a look at my Master List, and see if there are any stories or a genres you'd like to ask me a question about.

Pick a passage from my stories, up to 500 words, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the story, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

You can ask me anything - character motivation, writing process, or if you disagree with the direction I took in a story, ask me to defend it.

Wow, that sounds like a great idea! :)

From Boca Del Luna:
Sorry, couldn't cut more, 544 words (and really, everything that happens at Manì)

And when they finally drive into the city of Manì, they’re suddenly invaded by life and people, sharp contrast to the silence and the desert of the roads. They take it all in, eyes drinking in the scenery. The city is small, and they’re fast to find a space to park the car, and go on foot to discover the place. Music is floating in the warm air, driving them to the central plaza, where immediately, diverse smells and noises invade their senses. People are mingling around, dancing to the captivating music played by a band on a small stage, as all around the plaza are booths, offering drinks, foods, souvenirs.

[…]

At some point, sweaty and laughing, they manage to break away, and they join Danny, get something to eat, get a table and some beers. They don’t see time go by, it flies away from them as they enjoy the day, get to talk with some people, about the actual reasons of the festival that’s dedicated to the Virgin Mary, amongst other things. They dance and laugh and drink. It’s a holiday, in the truest meaning of the word, and it feels deeply good. Reinvigorating.

The night comes at them apparently too fast, and they’re taken in to help out with setting tables in the centre of the plaza, as lights are put up, candles everywhere, lighting up the pathways and setting an almost surreal glow on the whole site. Harry can’t stop taking pictures, wishes he could just capture the essence and the magic of the moment, but it’s impossible, it’s too much, and he locks it in his heart forever, moving image of a perfect moment.

They share a meal with everyone, not understanding all the conversations, but loving how everybody is making efforts to chat with them, share a few words. After having eaten, Danny goes to fetch his guitar from the car and sits on the table, sings ‘All About You’ and gets people to cheer, couples to dance. Everybody is tipsy, tired, but they don’t want to end the night there; they don’t want to stop, ever.

[…]

When the song is over, Danny finds himself playing the guitar as a man sings, improvising a song together, […]

There’s the sound of feet walking over gravel then, and Harry’s heartbeat increases, but Dougie has seen who is coming, and whispers to him to keep going. He’s getting close, he’s getting so close and it feels so good and it feels so right that he holds a hand out to the darkness, to the approaching feet, and he smiles when Danny takes it, climbs on the bonnet of the car beside Dougie and cups his cheek with one large, freckled hand.

The kiss they share is soft and sweet, tastes like the Mazapán they ate for dessert, and Dougie grips onto Danny’s hand as he deepens the kiss, asking for more, wanting more, as he’s that close, ready to burst. He breaks the kiss to moan loudly, his fingers running through Harry’s long hair as Danny’s lips are on his neck, exact same spot Harry’s were earlier. He holds onto the two older men as he feels a tidal wave washing through him, hard, fast, leaving him spineless.

The first sex scene. Damn, that was a while ago. I wanted to create an atmosphere, make it easy for them to relax enough to act on their impulses and desires. What were they thinking - not much, actually, they were more driven by an excellent evening and the freedom of being somewhere in the middle of a place where nobody knew them and nobody would care. Freedom, yeah, I think that was what I wanted to convey the most here, how they can just let go of their popstars personas and be themselves, be a little raw and completely free and just get what they want from each other without any of it mattering at all.
It's a turning point at the beginning of the story, their relationship shifting into something more intense and they know it'll only last until they get back to the hotel and to Tom.
