Oh look, a rant!
May. 24th, 2011 11:12 amSo apparently yesterday my other fandom, McFly, exploded in rage?
Like, let me explain, okay, they're a UK band and they're super popular in South America and right now they're touring there. And most fans of other countries hate the Brazilian fans because, well, there are precedents I guess. Bad behaviour and shit like that, I don't know, I've never really got involved in those issues.
Anyway, McFly, like a good band with a record label wanting to make looootttssss of moneyyyyyy, opened a fan club late last year, and the biggest promise you got when getting a yearly subscription was 'you'll get a meet&greet with the boys'. Okay, fair enough. Now they announced before going to South America that they'll do their M&Gs for their South American fans then. And obviously they FUCKED IT UP MAJORLY because yesterday fans got left outside the venue and there was an immense backlash and people spewing hate all over that corner of the internet. Brazilian fans to McFly, English fans to Brazilians fans (defending McFly apparently, moreso defending themselves and trying to prove that they are the 'best fans').
There is also the rumour that the bassist, Dougie (look at his little face, seriously, who would want to hurt that (photo by me)), got assaulted by a fan, who tried to give him a handjob, without his consent. And I'm like. This fandom is crazy, you guys, crazy. If that rumour happens to be true I'll have serious issues (especially considering what the guy has been through this year already, it's just wrong, I swear to God)(I am terribly, incredibly protective of these 4 boys despite the fact that I do not know them and only have met them a handful of times, but I'm protective of Dougie EVEN MORE because he is a baby and he's just fjivlfvjhkl I can't explain but there it is) but in the meantime I don't think the rumour is true and I just think many people in that fandom are vile. Really really vile. To either do it or start the rumour, it's just absolutely despicable. (sorry if any McFly fan happens to read this, but you know. It's true.)
Anyway, I discovered this whole thing this morning, and I had been PERFECTLY OBLIVIOUS. WHICH PLEASES ME IMMENSELY. Because you know what? I'm too old for that shit, and if people can't respect themselves, each other and/or the band they supposedly love, I want no part of it.
I love these boys, I love their music - they make me happy, I have seen them live countless times and I don't plan to stop, and through them I have met the best friends anyone could ever ask for, but seriously. So vile. I am really grateful for the H50 fandom, which has been a safe haven for me for the last few months. So thank you guys!
Done. I shall return to work and writing Danny-as-a-boxer.

Date: 2011-05-24 03:08 pm (UTC)This is the first I've heard about this, and I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I just don't understand why some "fans" can't seem to fathom that these people they idolize are real normal people, and not some product that they have a right to abuse just because they bought a CD. I have been a Super City Pioneer since the start, and I actually began putting a post-it over the chat window during webcasts. The hate between English-speaking and non-English-speaking fans is ridiculous. I wish everyone could have some manners and common decency toward four boys who do nothing but try to please everyone.
All-in-all, I am glad that there are still some fans like you out there who understand the insanity and idiocy of physically or verbally confronting people they don't even know. Thank you for being a bright spot of sanity amongst the fandom madness.

Date: 2011-05-24 03:13 pm (UTC)I'm no angel, I've said pretty awful things about people in that fandom, and I'm an angry and frustrated person - I talk too fast and then get myself in shit. Maybe that's why I like the fact that now I've got another fandom to look into, I am a little bit more in the sidelines and don't feel the need to get on my high horse about everything in the McFandom.

Date: 2011-05-24 04:04 pm (UTC)i can understand being pissed off if you're one of the fans who didnt get to meet them in south america, i really can. but they're complaining/abusing the wrong people - mcfly are not seriously going to be like OH NO, SOZ WE'RE NOT COMING OUT TO MEET YOU. it will be their management. and time restraints. and safety issues. yes it should have been planned better, but again that is not THEIR fault.
also, british fans piss me off so much getting up on their high horses about things like this when HELLO? all the do is fucking moan. shall we just remember the whole tour ticket episode? AGAIN its shit to promise something and follow through, but its not the boys fault. they do so much for us, more than alot of other bands and everyone just takes it for granted. esp us over here, it seems like alot of people think they're OWED mcflys time constantly for being fans... thats not all being a fan is about.
/erm, sorry this turned into a rant. do ignore me!

Date: 2011-05-25 06:49 am (UTC)I can't say much about that meeting and greeting cause I wasn't there. But in my city it was really great, dispite some technical problems. I wish that we all could live in peace, cause we're here for the same band. No need all this hate and fight, it's ridiculous.
