even animals cuddle sometimes

tailoredshirt to tell me to do something, and she told me to write sleepy cuddles. So, I did, and this happened.
Danny blinks his eyes open when he feels Steve’s stubble scratch along the top of his spine, quickly followed by soft, dry lips, moving along to his shoulder. It’s still dark, maybe dawn, he’s not quite sure but there’s little light coming through the blinds, blanketing the two of them in a semblance of night, stolen moments before murder victims and visits to the Governor take a hold of their day.
“Mornin’,” Steve barely says, a rumble-whisper displacing air along the curve of Danny’s shoulder. He shifts, pulling Danny closer, and Danny smiles despite himself, letting his eyes flutter close again.
“Not awake.”
“Liar.”
Danny sighs, tries to find the words to explain things to Steve without waking up completely. “This? This is bliss, okay, and it’s only achievable in this state between sleep and wakefulness, therefore, I am not awake yet.” Danny manages to keep his works slightly slurred, half mumbled against the pillow.
“For someone still sort of sleeping, those are big words. Therefore.” Steve ends with a snort, right into Danny’s hair, which is disgusting but manages to tickle Danny in just the way that makes him chuckle. He turns in Steve’s arms, sighing again, his eyes still closed, Steve’s lips finding his forehead, brushing against it. His arms are snug around Danny, Danny’s fingers moving back and forth over Steve’s biceps, completely absent-mindedly.
“Awake yet?”
“...No.”
“You know, if you were awake, we could make out a little, maybe we could even -”
“Do you ever not think about sex? Because you know, this is nice, and, fair enough, we’re both naked, and hello McGarrett, but. This is nice.”
“Are you saying sex isn’t nice?”
“I’m saying we do sex a lot, and very energetically, and in various places. We don’t - we don’t cuddle. And I like to cuddle, okay, I am saying this while being perfectly confident in my masculinity. I get it, you’re kind of an animal, but evens animals cuddle sometimes.”
Steve makes a noise, something Danny can’t quite decipher, but then there’s movement around him, Steve’s lips brushing against his own, making Danny chase them without even thinking about it.
“I like to cuddle.” It sounds like a protest, a pout in Steve’s voice. Danny moves his hand until his thumb is brushing back and forth over Steve’s cheekbone.
“Well then, we got it, don’t we? We can cuddle for a while longer, now. Say, until your alarm goes off, and you go for a swim while I make your breakfast like some kind of Stepford Wife.”
“Will you wear an apron, too?”
“If you cuddle me well enough.”
Steve’s arms tighten around Danny, who smothers a laugh against Steve’s chest. “Good. Now shut up.”
