delicatale: (Steve and his machine gun)

Marathoning Strike Back: Project Dawn, and, my fuck, it this is in any way accurate in the way soldiers act when on missions, I understand much better how Steve acts sometimes, with the random violence and all that. These guys don't stop to think about saving lives and will abandon civilians if they're a liability to the mission. They're killing mercilessly and throw themselves into danger with little thought behind it.

This show is terribly gritty and bloody and probably very very triggering for a lot of people for a lot of reasons (the violence is not only physical) but I really like it. Also, seeing slash everywhere, and it's not because the two main characters are fucking women left and right that they're not into each other, either...There is, sadly for me, no fic.

I kinda want a crossover, because Steve would get on with these guys so well, all the while Danny would seriously question everybody's sanity and hate hate haaaaate Scott, and not just because of the flirting with Steve ^_^.

Is anybody watching this? It really keeps on making me think about the way Steve acts.

This ia the first time I've even heard of this show, but from what you're saying I think you've got the right idea about Steve and Danny's reactions there! :D It would be so much fun to read a crossover!

I'd really like a crossover XD. If its anything like Strike Back though it should have conspiration theories and random bunkers in the middle of the Russian forest full of terrorists and a lot of blood and random girls to have sex with. Or they'd go on holiday in Hawaii and all hell breaks loose, because it would!

I'm thinking that either way, it sounds like Steve's idea of a good time! :D

Did a quick wiki, sounds interesting. Thanks for the heads up. The only portrayal of the military in the field (including special ops) I really trust are documentaries. Although there are differences in rules of engagement even within special forces. Black CIA ops vs normal special forces operations I'd wager and we've been hinted that Steve has worked both which only adds more layers of complexity to our fav SEAL :D

Hmmm. Very interesting.

This show's main characters are one British soldier and one American, and the American is anti-terrorism something something that is super black ops, according to wiki. I have no idea how accurate it is, but if it is accurate in any way, then I understand the random bursts of violence much better...

It's a good show, if you're into that kind of stuff!

I saw it on my f-list last week. I like the fact it's seems to be filmed with integrity and not blasting with rock and roll music and ra, ra, ra stuff.

I'm a bit worried about how much it might give away, but trust it's only a sliver of what is secret.

I actually want the writers to make Steve more "military, SEAL-like" than the goofy smiling "Uncle Steve" - I mean some of that's okay but he's been military longer than he was a civilian - and he isn't going to change in a year of being Stateside....

but they have to appeal to a broad range of viewers and I'm certainly NOT complaining about what we have but there is more to Steve than has met the eye so far - concerning his "other life" that we haven't seen so much of yet....

that also might be why I was one of the few who actually liked the 3rd eppy with the SEAL stuff at the end...it was like being a "voyeur" into a life I will never know anything about coz I'm not military.....

Well, I don't really want him to be more SEAL-like. I didn't like that episode, I hated the end of it, definitely. I like war movies and tv shows, but I really didn't like that part of it.

And I agree, there is much more to Steve than we know, but I think his evolution from being very cold and bossy at the beginning of S1, into who he is now is really interesting, and I like watching this more than I'd like watching him being a SEAL all the time, I believe.

I was just saying, basically, that I understand the random 'unnecessary' violence better watching Strike Back, because these men are reckless, and they have to be.

I like my show as it is, though ^^.

OMG...Strike Back on one of the only 3 shows I watch! Can you just imagine Steve and Damien together...the explosions would be EPIC!!! Michael and Danny would just stand by shaking their heads and trading stories about how their wives just don't understand why they have to do the jobs they do.
I also love the our 2 anti hero macho all Americans are played by Aussies!

Date: 2011-10-22 05:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
Ahahah, yeah, the Aussie thing is quite the coincidence ^_^. I am afraid Danny would end up alone more often than not though, Stonebridge would be right between Danny's no and Steve and Scott's YES!. Oh dear XD.

It's well angry and gritty and gory! There's also a lot of sex and nakedness.

YEAH -great show !!!
am a big fan of Strike Back too-
love how many times we get to see Sullivan Stapleton's awesome nakedness!
also love his 'energetic' lovemaking-
whew!
The writers seem to want to get him naked and in bed just the way H50's want to get Alex shirtless :D

Lol! I sort of have a bigger fondness for Stonebridge? Also, not sure you can call that lovemaking, lolol XD. But I really enjoy it! We're watching the last episode, now, sigh, I'm going to miss it...

I watched the first two of this then my Sky dvr messed up and failed two eps in a row so I abandoned it. Did you see the first one? I think this current series is the second? I can totally see Steve having to do really, really crazy shit back in the day. A lot of people have been freaked out by Steve and what he does but I think he'd be way harder than we get to see on screen in reality - and a darker character too. In fact I'm a bit obssessed and sort of weirdly in love with the dark Steve I have in my head, which is kind of messed up.

The best thing I've ever seen for military stuff was Generation Kill by the guy who did The Wire. That really gives an insight into it and they weren't even special ops like Steve was. It has Alexander Sarskgard in it (Think I've spelt that wrong) and he is amazing. I'm going to have to see if Sky repeat Project Dawn and try to watch again.

Generation Kill is AWESOME!
I get goosebumps when I watch it-
you're right, Alexander Skarsgard is amazing!

I think it is honestly my favorite TV show that I've ever seen. And yeah Alexander is just so awesome in that he should have won all the Emmy's for all time, what an amazing character he created.

I've not seen the first season, no - had no idea this show even existed before we saw trailers and thought it looked well gory and gay and we like that in my flat XD.

And I've been meaning to see Generation Kill for ages and ages...really really need to watch it!

Sounds interesting, but when you say triggering, any way you could give me some more details? I'm fine with violence, but no so good with sexual assault type triggers :(

Date: 2011-10-23 11:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com
Well there is a lot of sexual assault type things from the enemies. A lot of it happens through African militia and things like that so they don't tend to ask for consent before taking what they want...

I think I may have to pass then, sadly. An incidental scene I'm willing to risk, but if it's common the best thing for my mental health is to give it a pass...

See you have a lot to answer for, after reading your post I went looking for it and couldn't find it so I have Dl'd the first series.

I have such a thing for military and guns, and I don't think I can blame all of that on my fiance being US Army and currently deployed.

But I'm currently in the middle of episode 2 and loving it.

Ive not actually seen the first series! They're labelled as two different things in the UK so we started watching s2 without having seen s1...hope you like ^^.

I have so far, I'm up to episode four. You're right you know, it's scary how completely focused they are on their objective. Sometimes they make Steve look like a bit of a pussy. God only knows how Danny would deal with them.
