armillarysphere has generously looked this over so if there is any errors/brit words left in, it's all my fault. Another one, I swear they just come out of my fingers faster than my Muse can formulate them in my head. I can't help it, that episode!! Oh. There's already been many a 'missing scene' fics written but this one was nagging at me terribly. Anyway, I hope you enjoy, comments are amazing and I love them a lot.
Danny bites into Steve's shoulder, and, okay, it hurts but in a good way, in a way that makes Steve hiss and almost, almost ask for more. He doesn't, just presses closer into Danny and the shadows they're hiding in - just outside the Hilton Village, hidden away by walls and the night but still out there in the open and it's stupid, fucking reckless but today has just been stupid and crazy and Steve is reeling from it all. He's relieved, too, that he's alive and well, that all Danny suffered was rope burns on his hands, that they found Leung's killer, that Chin and Kono accepted their invitation to go out for a drink despite their family tragedy unfolding. Steve is fucking relieved to still have all this when he could have fallen further down and lost it all.
Danny's bite, his vicious attack on skin that was until then unbruised, is only an immediate response to Steve's obvious, harmless flirting with their waitress. Kamekona had diffused the slight tension but Steve knew, the flashes in Danny's eyes, even as he smiled, they told a story, and maybe Steve was the only one able to read it.
He read jealousy and possessiveness, little things Danny holds on to at all times, even when he's not supposed to, even before this thing between them started. He read that the events of the day had put him on edge, too, and there would be retaliation and maybe a fight, too, at some point, between the first few urgent kisses and the hurried undressing.
It starts now, though, obviously, now that they're alone, a little drunk and swaying to the car. Danny slams Steve into the wall and it isn't comfortable, but Steve will live, and then Danny pulls the collar of Steve's shirt aside, and bites. And Steve isn't sure if Danny wants to say mine or if he just wants to feel Steve's pulse under his teeth and tongue, but he's content with both or any, leaning into Danny's mouth, a low groan escaping him after the hissing.
Danny pulls back then, looks up, cheeks flushed and eyes bright in the darkness. Steve wonders if he should say anything, but then Danny leans closer and kisses Steve, under his Adam's Apple, through his shirt.
All his anger seems to dissipate, his shoulders relaxing under Steve's hands, where he's holding on because there's something about Danny that always makes him feel a little unsteady, on the verge of breaking. With warm breath and trembling lips, Danny kisses soft and gentle and really unlike their usual kisses, unlike the bite - that will leave a mark, but somehow this kiss goes straight under Steve's skin, stronger than any bruising. And then Danny does it again, lower, more to the left. And again, and again; he's on a path, he's got a plan, only Steve isn't sure what it is, until Danny kisses right above Steve's heart. He rests his forehead there afterwards, breathing hard, as if they've just had the most energetic sex ever.
"Don't do that again, okay?"
Steve has a hard time finding his voice, and it sounds raspier than he thought it would when he replies.
"Do what? Flirt with someone else than you?"
"No, asshole. Don't ever get hit by a boulder again."
Steve has a feeling Danny means he's not as scared when the other stuff happens, that Danny can deal with Steve getting shot at and shit, because at least in those cases they're not alone, not fucking alone in the middle of nowhere with a dead body reminding them how easy it is to die. Steve won't ask just how badly Danny felt the helplessness. He's not sure he wants to know.
"Okay."
Danny chuckles, shakes his head and pulls away. Steve can still feel his kisses, the ones that led to Steve's heart, an open path over his chest. He pulls Danny close, and the hug is awkward with his broken arm and the words Danny refuses to say, but that's okay, too.
"Let's go, shall we? Let's just - let's just go."
"Yeah, okay. Oh, and by the way, Steve. Don't flirt with waitresses either."
Steve grins.

Date: 2011-04-13 12:30 pm (UTC)I really like the contrast of the bite and then Danny being so gentle, because that's really how he is. He's snarky and loud, but then he also has this innate sweetness to him sometimes. Nice job!

Date: 2011-04-14 06:37 am (UTC)I love the image of him laying kisses down to Steve's heart, needing to hear it and be close to the feeling of Steve actually being there. That was so beautiful!
And of course Danny would say "and don't flirt with any more waitresses,"lol.

Really lovely! I love the contrast in Danny with his anger and his fear and helplessness and all of it coming together and then slowly unwinding when he realises that Steve is still alive and still his and he's not going anywhere.
And again, and again; he's on a path, he's got a plan, only Steve isn't sure what it is, until Danny kisses right above Steve's heart. jsdhkjhfk <33

Date: 2011-04-15 09:11 am (UTC)I love that sparkly, fluttery feeling of a shiny new fandom. <3 I seem to be writing a lot of ~moments with them, too, as opposed to longer, plotty things. Steve and Danny are made for little snippets of cute, fluffy love. :D

Date: 2011-04-15 10:12 am (UTC)They fit everything - that's the good thing. I'm really hoping one day I'll get some meaty plot idea to write for them! I'm writing a fic with some more plot than the last few I've done, but it's taking me a bit of time, have to sit down and really get into it ^^.

Date: 2011-04-16 12:32 am (UTC)They DO fit everything - I love it! And the thing with meaty plots, at least for me, is that I get them all the time. I get a lot of OHMYGODTHISWOULDBESOAWESOMEWRITEITNOW plot ideas and I get so excited over them and just talk about them endlessly and never actualy sit down and write them. It's quite awful. For another fandom, I have about three or four of these that I've somewhat started and never got around to finishing and for H50 I've got another three that I so want to write. It's just the actusal sitting down and writing them that's the hard part. Heh.

Date: 2011-04-16 09:35 am (UTC)THEY ARE PRETTY EXCITING THO. One of them was inspired by a post in
The other one is decidedly less cracky and fun, more of a straight-forward plot!fic dealing with Wo Fat and all that craziness. It came about because I decided to make Moby Dick allegories and turned Steve into Ahab and Wo Fat is the White Whale. (And so, Danny's "hands up, Ahab!" on the episode this week made me *lol*) And Sang Min is involved, because Sang Min is cool, even though he isn't cool in this fic because he threatens Grace and kidnaps Danny to get Steve where Wo Fat wants him and much angst ensues.
And then I came up with another one earlier, sort of inspired by a White Collar fic I never finished writing (See? long fic + me? Nothing ever gets done.) where Steve is out of commission for a few weeks - either from an injury, or doing some super sekrit project for the Governor or something or family stuff with Mary on the mainland or something ANYWAY, he's not there so Danny gets a temporary new partner. All good, right? Wrong. New partner is a grade-A douche. I'm torn between making him a native from HPD (so he'd have extra baggage to bring in for Chin and Kono, too) who dislikes the loud-mouthed haole, or another haole fresh in from the mainland, much like Danny, who also, happens not to like Hawaii. Only, he's vocal about it, and his criticisms get under Danny's skin and Danny finds himself, godforbid, defending Hawaii which, okay, is sort of like home. And he bitches to Steve over the phone about this new guy and Steve dislikes the guy on principle. Oh! And partner is very much like Danny in the whole by-the-book approach. Or, at least, Danny thought he was a pretty by-the-book kind of guy, but this guy makes him look as wild as Steve. At some point, all this craziness makes Danny snap a bit and he pulls a very McGarrettish interrogation move or something and partner completely bitches him out about it and Danny thinks, This guy is a dick. And then by-the-book ends up getting Danny shot or injured because he had to follow the rules and Danny realises he hates getting shot, but getting shot because of something this guy didn't do is somehow so much worse than getting shot because of something Steve did do. And Steve learns about all this and when he gets back, he probably punches the guy's lights out or something.
All in all, the purpose is to make Danny realise how much he's grown used to having Steve around and that he misses him when he isn't there and all those lovely little feeeeeelings.
...this is long. Sorry. I shut up now. ;~;
