It's completely collaborative. I mean, of course it depends on whom you're writing with, but in our cases, it's completely collaborative. With both thegrrrl2002 and sirona_gs, we share a google doc so we can both be in it at the same time and discuss points if needed, and we 'tag' each other; I'll write a few hundred words, tag the other, they'll write a few hundred words, and so on. With tailoredshirt it's even more messy, we tend to write at the same time in different parts, but it's also quite fun.
Some stories I write on my own, and wouldn't want to write them with a co-author, because it's a story I want to tell. But some stories you come up during a discussion, and then you just go for it, and it's not that personal, it's a sharing process that is really fun, and has taught me a lot about my writing. I think it makes me a better solo author, but it's definitely something completely different for everyone. It can also be difficult to find people with whom you click well enough to manage to write together.
