Trufax! Two reasons for this: 1) as close to the equator as we are, the tilt of the earth on its axis doesn't affect us as much, and 2) we are one of two states U.S. that do not have daylight savings time- because we don't need it (see reason 1). The upside of this is the sun never sets before 5:48, even in the middle of winter.
I have to say, when I lived on the Mainland, I found your bipolar temperate solar periods bizarre and difficult to get used to. ^_^
